The problem: You have two computers but want to use one monitor/keyboard to control both. Here’s how to do it:
1. Many modern monitors allow for multiple input jacks, a VGA, DVI, S-Video, etc. If so, then plug both computers into the same monitor using different jacks. You can use a free software solution to enable your single keyboard to control both computers (assuming that both are networked). It is called Synergy and is available here.
2. If you cannot connect both computers to the same monitor and/or don’t want to use a software solution, the other way is to use a KVM (short for keyboard, video, mouse) switch. This is straightforward. You connect all of the PCs to the switch and a single keyboard, monitor and mouse. You can now switch between the computers that you want to control.
