Problem: I needed to determine if my modem supports voice on my XP machine. Here’s how to do it (note that this does not work on Vista as Vista does not support HyperTerminal).
1. From Windows, click Start, Run, then type in hypertrm and click OK.
2. A Connection Description screen should pop up asking for a name for the connection. Type in Test, then click OK.
3. A screen should appear asking for a phone number. Click the Cancel button.
4. You should be at a blank HyperTerminal screen, with a blinking cursor. Type in ATE1 (may not show up as you type it) and hit enter. It should respond with OK.
5. Type in AT+FCLASS=? and press Enter.
6. If it gives you ERROR that means the modem does not support this command. If it lists 8 this means it supports voice.
